Education
In 1962, Sandra graduated from DePaul University with her J.D. She received her B.A. from the University of Chicago and holds a master's degree in Social Work.

Social work
While not a licensed social worker, Sandra has devoted a significant part of her life to social work. She is also a professor of jurisprudence in psychiatry at the University of Illinois, Abraham Lincoln School of Medicine.
